What photo does the Thai e-Visa want?

TL;DR Head about 70% of the frame, portrait orientation, plain white or off-white background, spectacles allowed without glare, headgear only for religious reasons — from the Royal Thai Embassy Singapore's own "Photograph Specifications (e-Visa)" page, updated March 2025. Apply through the e-Visa site at least 21 working days before travel.

The Embassy's specification

Fill the frame: entire head, top of hair to bottom of chin, about 70% of the photo's height. Upload in portrait orientation. Neutral expression, mouth closed. Face directly toward the camera, eyes open. Headgear, hats and earphones not acceptable except for religious reasons, and never blocking the face. Face and shoulders centred. Spectacles allowed if the flash does not reflect off the eyeballs. Plain white or off-white background, nothing behind you. Clear, no blur, no shadows.

What is different from a printed visa photo

It is an upload, so there is no millimetre size on the Embassy's page — the proportion is what is judged. This site outputs 35 × 45 at 413 × 531 pixels with the head band set to about 70%, which satisfies the proportion and prints correctly if a paper copy is ever wanted.

A real case

A Bangladeshi engineer's Thai e-Visa was queried for a photo with the head at roughly half the frame — a full-body crop. Re-uploaded as head and shoulders at 70%, approved the next working day.

Common questions

Can Singaporeans skip this?
Singapore passport holders are visa-exempt for short tourist visits to Thailand; the e-Visa is for nationalities that need one.
The Thai passport renewal — same photo?
No. The Royal Thai Embassy takes the photo and fingerprints at its consular section for a passport renewal; nothing is brought.
